In 2011, Said Ahmed, Tony DaRocha, Barbara Hamilton, Ted Loska and Sekou Dilday founded Boston United to introduce Boston-area youth to track and field through free programming at the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Complex in Roxbury.
In addition to weekly practices during the school year, Boston United participates in USATF events — cross country meets in the fall, indoor meets in the winter and outdoor meets each spring — and in Boston Running Collaborative developmental meets year-round.
Boston United does not charge any fees to participate, one of few remaining free athletic programs in the greater Boston area. All of our coaches and board members are volunteers, and most of the founding members remain with the program. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we solicit in-kind donations to provide uniforms, shoes and equipment for our athletes; we raise funds to provide USATF membership fees and meet entrance fees; and, we rely on public facilities to hold our practices.

Track
Our track program is geared towards athletes aiming to enhance their speed, agility, and overall athletic performance. With tailored training sessions including sprints, hurdles, relays, and field events, participants develop the skills and conditioning necessary to excel on the track. Join us to hone your technique, push your limits, and compete at your best.

Field
The field component includes a variety of dynamic athletic disciplines including throwing, jumping, and vaulting. The variety of field events allows athletes to showcase their strength, precision, and agility. Our program offers specialized coaching and training to help athletes excel in their chosen field events.

Cross Country
Focusing on improving endurance, speed, and mental-fortitude over diverse terrain, our cross-country program uses a mix of distance runs, intervals, and strength training. Participants build the fitness and determination needed for competitive races, and develop teamwork and self-discipline through conquering challenges and courses.
